Test Your Product
Beauty shouldn’t cost you your health or the planet’s. How do other brands really rate?
Since 2007 we’ve said to skip the marketing and “let the ingredients do the talking!” We recommend to check ALL your products & ingredients within a brand before use.
Locate the FULL ingredient list.
Add a point for each if used: bismuth oxychloride, talc, carmine, propylene glycol, lanolin, a synthetic colour shown by FD&C or D&C followed by a number, Parabens (Ethyl, Propyl, Butyl or Methyl) Imid Urea, Diaz Urea, Nylon 12, Nylon Fiber (Nylon-66), petrolatum, Sodium Laurel Sulphate, perfume.
Add all points to get a score.
This product is free from the mostly commonly used toxic synthetics and irritants, but may still contain fillers like magnesium stearate or cornflour.
Score 1 -3:
Contains too many nasty ingredients – bad for your skin and your health!
Toxic cocktail. You have been warned!
Other warning signs
– A need for buffing (bad for the skin)
– ‘Helper’ products (primer, separate concealor)
– Waterproof mascara (uses nylons)
Check the brand IS actually listed on Choose Cruelty Free’s Preferred Products List.
Is the brand transparent and unambiguous? Are the full ingredient lists available, and commensurate with the philosophy? (Phrases like ‘100% pure ‘, ‘100% mineral based’ or ‘100% mineral makeup’ are ambiguous and misleading. Also watch out for ‘we avoid’ rather than ‘we leave out’. Check what is left IN the ingredient list!)
Are the minerals in a high concentration? Are they actively good for your skin like Zinc, or passive?
Is there a phone number and email for customer support and your peace of mind? Do they give full disclosure about ordering, shipping etc on their site without having to make the order first?
If your skin’s not sensitive you could be at more risk!.
